Liz Black is the Venezuelan-born designer who
established her womenswear label in 2010 soon
after her graduation from Central Saint Martins
College to express her exuberant creativity
”swapping a successful career in dentistry for her
true calling, fashion design” as she reveals, winning
significant awards like the 'Sustainable Ethical
Fashion' and working for designers Diane von
Furstenberg and Emilio de la Morena in London
and New York ”where she saw first-hand the
inner workings of both a huge global brand and
an emerging designer label.”

In the bitterly cold days of current London fashion
week, the Freemansons Hall hosted on Saturday a
showy presentation of Liz Black's fall-winter 14-15
collection which was deeply inspired by the work of
Spanish controversial genius Salvador Dalì featuring
his hallmarks such as outraged eyes, spun moustaches
and the lip-shaped red satin sofa of his Mae West
room installation.

The surrealistic setting provided enough drama to
highlight minimal slinky clothes that epitomize the
young designer's carefree aesthetic: well tailored
outfits for sophisticated cosmopolitan women in crepe
and jersey, chiffon and leather were paired with
eye-catching statement pieces shaped as lips or with
moustache appliqués all coming out of two giant
eggs to the sound of Latin music.

Models' faces were adorned with jaw-dropping motifs
of lobsters and ants called Face Lace™, a non-fade,
non-smudge range of ready-to-wear designs created by
Vancouver-born make up artist Phyllis Cohen, a 'face
fanatic' who's famous for the intricate designs and stag-
geringly bold fashion feats she developed over 35 years.

A true riot of lighthearted originality.
