The timeless appeal of Vincent Van Gogh's vibrant
paintings inspired the latest collection of upcoming
Dutch designer Mattijs van Bergen who opened the
official Mercedes-Benz fashion week in Amsterdam
with a momentous show. Mattijs breathed art since
childhood, his mother a sculptor - his father a painter,
soon developing a strong liking for color and design.

A graduate of the Institute of Fine Arts in Arnhem, he
honed his fashion skills at London's Central Saint Martins
launching his own label 'MATTIJS' in 2008 proving his
knack for dressmaking through ”neoclassical designs
defined by a distinctive use of color, high quality fabrics
and fine craftsmanship (...) curvaceous tailoring and a
sculptural use of pleating” as critics introduce his style.

A designer whose love lays in the development of garments
through the use of color, pleats and prints: in collaboration
with the Van Gogh museum, van Bergen produced a vivid
fall/winter 2014-15 collection called 'Complementair' in
which kaleidoscopic digital prints featuring elements from
the post-Impressionist masterworks play the leading role.
Freshly feminine looks where gorgeous long evening
gowns are paired with pleated skirts and graphic pieces
in a sublime mix of textures and materials, metallic details
and butterfly jewelry highlighting the complementarity
